Off Grid Life

On the edge of day and night.

Brain overwritten.

Beverage from last night, now warm, unfinished, on the counter.

After a full week of scattered routines.

Risked for pleasure.

Once again, I’m backyard-dwelling.

She says, “I miss you,” as she holds it all together.

And nobody really knows, as the lights inside get dimmer.

It makes the days go by quicker.

If your feet touch the ground, you’ll quickly be held down.

Sinking into your same old fears again…

Put on your camo.

Hide your truth.

Conform, fall in, be lame.

Everyday, everyday,

have another sandwich, everyday.

Repeated nights.

Lovers only as passersby.

Losing time, and

adding time,

to make ourselves just right.

The lies we tell them.

The lies our future will someday arise from,

What we will soon call that which was a necessary evil.

What have we become!?
